so yummy!

all dry and so lovely! here's how the batch from yesterday turned out:

This is Mikado dyed with Jacquard acid dyes of our own concoction. I dyed a few extra skeins for myself that are telling me they'd like to be a swing jacket for the littlest one.

what's cookin'?

Jules and i kept the dyepots steamin' yesterday. we worked on a custom dye order for a clothing company and finished up 50 pounds of a bulky boucle. here's our favorite batch:

the yarns are almost dry today and since the weather is supposed to be in the 80s i should be able to send them off tomorrow.

fiber-licious weekend!

got a little dyeing and felting and spinning done this weekend...yippee!
first, i made some felt for a coat for Annika. its merino, kid mohair curls, and glitz sparkle nuno felted onto some sheer silk. the top photo shows (clockwise from the top center) the fabric before felting, the fabric after felting, and the wool felt. its basically wool felted into silk with gives the silk that lovely crinkle effect.

and here is a closeup of just the nuno felt piece when finished:

and then there was some overdyeing action....i didn't like the bright green of this clapotis knitted ages ago...so, into the pot it went. per-fee!! much better now!

and then there is the stripe yarn that i made (um again, ages ago). i knitted a long strip on my knitting machine, painted on stripes and set the dye. it was too turquoisey so it took a dip in the pot as well. interestingly it didn't dye all the way down into the stitches...so it has this funky dapple effect. see:

and lastly, i did a little spinning from a batt i carded up (yep, ages ago). its merino, cottswold curls, angora fluff, llama, firestar, a spot of yak down, and some orange wool top:

baby and the bonnet......

it feels like fall is here. the air is cool and crisp and scented by fallen apples warming in the sun. i took the littlest one outside in her bonnet for a little photo op. its a lucy neatby pattern, done up in some superwash merino (with excellent twist!)from the Vermont Sheep and Wool festival.

the smallest of fiber lovers....

so yesterday morning i came down stairs and noticed a small ball of neon green wool on the floor in my yarn room. the baby? the dog? wasn't this ball on the very top shelf yesterday? now it was running from one side of the room to the other....under the desk chair, under the legs of the sewing basket....then i realize the mice are getting cold too, and what luck for them to find such a stash of yummy, warm bedding. and how nice of them to leave the handspun tussah (so far!) and opt for the cheap cascade 220 instead. and neon green...i certainly don't have anything in mind for that color. somewhere the little devils have a plush nest of fibery goodness built bit by bit from the fiber buffet.

here we go again....

ok, well. so i want a blog. i *need* a blog. everyone but me has a blog!
i blog in my head. i think of things to post, photos to share, etc, etc.
ok, so now i'm blogging.
